The Warrior of Wit and Word
By Jazelle Handoush
There’s no gun in her hand
No scars on her skin
And the fists that she forms
Hurt like the peck of a kiss.
She’s not quick on her feet
Though she’s quite quick to fall
But she’ll battle and defend
With wit and word
Protecting all unjust and unfair
In the chaos confusion of this world.
Heart of steel that will hurt like hell
Mental mindedly sharp and strong
The weapon in her hand,
A pen to pierce feared thought.
A hero without trying,
A defender without bruise or blood
She’s the warrior of wit and word
For she knows where power starts.
With this reminder, her strength solidified:
Remember words can hurt people
And so can lies.
