POETRY: 'The Warrior of Wit and Word' by Jazelle Handoush
The Warrior of Wit and Word
By Jazelle Handoush
There’s no gun in her hand
No scars on her skin
And the fists that she forms
Hurt like the peck of a kiss.
She’s not quick on her feet
Though she’s quite quick to fall
But she’ll battle and defend
With wit and word
Protecting all unjust and unfair
In the chaos confusion of this world.
Heart of steel that will hurt like hell
Mental mindedly sharp and strong
The weapon in her hand,
A pen to pierce feared thought.
A hero without trying,
A defender without bruise or blood
She’s the warrior of wit and word
For she knows where power starts.
With this reminder, her strength solidified:
Remember words can hurt people
And so can lies.

POETRY: For You Uncle By Cheryl A. Baldwin
Stay in the sky Dear Moon And
Dear Sun,
For it is not your time to go down yet.
Stay high in the sky,
For there are so many needs you have not met.
Embody the hearts that surround you,
Before you set into the horizon that now calls you.
stay up and never go down,
Because we cannot imagine a world without you around
When the time comes, and it is either Day or either night,
Love is showed with a heavenly glow of light.
From you, Dear Sun and Dear Moon...
Try to restrain your tears young souls who watch
Because even the caring hands of you cannot stop
The Sun from setting nor the Moon from going away.
Filled with saddness and dismay...
you remember the heavenly glow and the Love from Dear Moon and Dear Sun
